Life is fragile.
A single group of blood cells that clot can travel to the lungs and kill you.
Life is fragile.
A single chromosomal abnormality can cause a fetus to stop development.
Life is fragile.
A single peanut or shrimp in the food of someone who is extremely allergic can cause anaphylaxis which if not treated quickly can be deadly.
Life is fragile.
A single pipe loose on your water heater can lead to a carbon monoxide leak. You can’t see or smell this poisonous gas which after prolonged exposure can lead to death.
Life is fragile.
But God isn’t.
Recently I told a priest how angry at God I was for things that were happening in my life, and his response surprised me. He said, “God can take it.” Our God is able to shoulder our burdens. He asks us to share them with Him. In Matthew 11, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Many times when we talk about prayer, we speak with pretty words and the beautiful friendship that prayer can bring, but friends fight. Friends have problems that they need to talk about. Sometimes prayer can be loud and angry and messy. That’s okay. Bring that burden to Christ, He can take it. He wants to take it. He wants you to welcome Him into the hurt and the pain and He wants to bring His peace to it. Whatever you are struggling with, however you are hurting, bring it to God this week. Tell Him all of the ways that you are in pain. Life is fragile, and can fall apart a hundred different ways, but our God is strong and can take anything life throws at you (and that you in turn throw at Him).
